Hawksbill Crag / Boxley Valley / Ponca / Jasper / Buffalo River

Some of the most iconic natural views in Arkansas are found in close proximity to each other in the Ozark Mountains. Hawksbill Crag (Whitaker Point) is a fantastic spot which can be found after a not-too-difficult hike. Nearby, you'll find Smith Creek Preserve, views of roaming elk in the Boxley Valley Historic District, the Buffalo River (our nation's first national river), the Big Bluff Goat Trail, Eden Falls on the Lost Valley Trail, and much much much more. There are plenty of overnight rental options in lodges and cabins, as well as campgrounds for tents and RVs. On one visit, we parked our camper in Dogwood Springs Campground near Jasper. On another visit, we stayed in an historic Boxley home that is available through VRBO. There are canoe and kayak outfitters to help you access the river. There are seemingly endless hiking options in the area. Visit Bubba's Buffalo River Store in Jasper for souvenirs. For food, plan to eat at Low Gap Cafe and Ozark Cafe. Along the way to or from the area, plan to grab some grub at Ozone Burger Barn.
