If historic preservation is an interest for you like it is for us, you'll enjoy a visit to Powhatan Historic State Park where you can explore multiple preserved sites from the 1800's. Learn the fascinating history of this once very important river port town on the Black River. This visit was part of a larger weekend of visits for us because of the close proximity of multiple state parks. We camped at Lake Charles State Park and ventured out on day trips to Powhatan Historic State Park, Davidsonville Historic State Park, and Jacksonport State Park. We highly recommend making the most of your adventures by planning to visit points of interest that are within an easy distance.
